Stretch Seat.
The aim of the ‘Stretch’ project was to develop a center seat conversion that has an equal aesthetic and function as a high-end floor console. The focus lies on creating a unique function with seamless transitioning that separates it from the rest of the market and is appealing to a variety of consumers. The conversion from a middle seat into a floor console should be different to a traditional bench type transition.
The main purpose is that the seat can achieve its goal by holding a body comfortably and can transform into a floor console, that looks like a floor console in a car without the stretched final position.
The stretch seat concept is inspired by origami folding techniques. The passenger seat expands towards the driver’s seat and forms into a bigger bench by unfolding textile elements between the padded seat sections.
Instead of forming out of the center console, the stretch is part of the passenger seat, which leaves a lot of additional space for storage and looks visually more integrated than having a separate seat element.
